In recent years, this area has seen a notable surge in population, with its quiet streets and serene landscape making it especially attractive to anyone ready to put down roots for the first time. The available housing options, which range from retro ranch-style homes with spacious backyards to modern townhouses complete with balconies, also attract newcomers. Although there’s no lack of restaurants, bars, and coffee shops within Timbergrove, the multiple parks that dot the area give it its main appeal. And, for those who want a little more of an urban feel alongside their green space, they can meet that need by settling down on either the eastern edge of this neighborhood, which touches the Greater Heights, or on the southernmost side, which borders the Washington Avenue / Memorial Park community.

In fact, most Houstonites will associate this locale with its landmark outdoor attraction: the West White Oak Bayou Trail. This 7.4-mile long path runs along the banks of the White Oak Bayou and features top-notch views of Downtown Houston’s skyscrapers.

A community fixture for close to three decades, this dining hotspot plates up traditional staples of Southeast Asian cuisine, such as shaking beef and vermicelli bowls, as well as pub-style burgers and an impressive selection of craft beers. Causal restaurant and sports bar Cactus Cove Bar & Grill presents another popular local pick. At this spot, you can cheer on the Texans or Astros with the crew over large plates of Tex-Mex comfort food.

With its Inner Loop locale and proximity to the city’s various hubs of entertainment and commerce, living in the Timbergrove community gives locals the convenience of a centrally located home base without the hefty price tag you might find in similarly situated neighborhoods, such as The Heights or Downtown. Plus, while its position near the White Oak Bayou makes for an accessible scenic stroll, it also comes with a potential pitfall: flooding. And, in a city known to experience torrential rainstorms, any future renters and homeowners looking in this area should consider the possible environmental risk.
