Make no mistake about it: The Galleria is the beating heart of these neighborhoods and the hub from which much of the area’s activity originates. On any given day, you can spot scores of shoppers carrying bags that showcase the huge range of stores found in this mega-mall, which include chic, high-fashion labels, such as Gucci and Louis Vuitton, as well as affordable favorites like American Eagle and Foot Locker. But strolling through the racks isn’t the only way to take a walk because Memorial Park, an outdoor gem complete with playgrounds and tennis courts, is also located here.

If you crave even more of a credit card workout after hitting The Galleria, stop by the upscale boutique shops at Uptown Park. While there, you can browse gemstone necklaces at Elizabeth Anthony or get a made-to-fit suit at M Penner. Afterward, you can fuel back up with wood-grilled oysters at nearby Caracol or slurp down dry martinis during happy hour at H Bar. And, there’s no place more popular for a photo shoot in this neighborhood than the Gerald D. Hines Waterwall Park, a massive 64-foot tall water sculpture surrounded by beautiful oak trees.

Things to Know

Due to its location along the 610 loop, the traffic in the Galleria area gets fairly brutal, especially during rush hour. While driving in these neighborhoods, you’ll want to take extra precautions due to the number of pedestrians crossing the roads alongside the mall. On a more positive note, the schools found in this area are some of the best in all of Houston.
