422 & 424 W Melrose Apartments

Great building, and I love the neighborhood

Great location and price, older building but my unit is updated, quiet on my side (1 bedrooms) while other half (422) is more rowdy. What do you like most: Location, view. What do you like least: Not many amenities.

I'm new to the area. Previously I've bounced around the suburbs and central Illinois, so I'm not the best person to compare and contrast city living. What I like about my building/unit is that it's really well cared for, spacious, and has a lot of natural light. Furthermore, the neighborhood is great (Lincoln Park, Wrigleyville, Lakeview area). My building is unique in that it has many young professionals, grad students, and families young and old. For the most part, everyone is friendly. There are a plethora of dining and drinking options nearby - not to mention easy access to Cubs games. My complaints: water goes from scorching hot to freezing anytime any of the 60 units flushes a toilet, no A/C, management is very difficult and condescending, application fees are high, only hardwood floors, and the kitchen is small and outdated. In addition, I was unpleasantly surprised at long the commute is to the loop during rush hour, but that's mostly poor research on my part.
